This one grows on me with every listen. Mr. Davidson dishes out traditional vocal sections of a Christian Mass set to pulsing hand percussion and electronic treatments. If you’re sick of Enigma-like beats and sounds, this CD is a welcome respite. It’s very danceable and pretty groovy stuff even for an ex-Catholic. Much of the hand percussion is North African djembe or ashiko with some frame drums and udu drums in the mix. Matthew played every instrument including the Chapman Stick, and sang every last Latin harmony on the record (the vocals, by the way are beautiful). For all the technology employed to create Blue Forest Mass, it comes off surpassingly ware. Choice pickin’s for a headphone journey. |
